Dawn Cooper is an illustrator based in a leafy suburb of Bristol, working from a friendly shared studio in Montpelier. Her work includes non-fiction wildlife books for kids, book covers, maps and packaging, all heavily inspired by the natural world and its many creatures, as well as traditional botanical drawings and works of fiction. She is also a great lover of quotations, and telling stories through a singular image.
Dawn graduated from Bath School of Art & Design with a first class degree in Graphic Communication, and has rarely been apart from her pens and paper since.
Dawn draws everything by hand, before assembling her drawings on screen to make multi-layered illustrations with lots of digital colour and texture. Their densely patterned layers are often likened to traditional print-making and mark-making.
In the rare moments when she’s not drawing, Dawn likes nothing more than a long, rewarding walk with her camera.
