Highly effective medications exist to treat opioid use disorder, but until recently patients had to see doctors in-person to receive those medications — a serious obstacle for many, especially in rural areas. Since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, however, doctors have been able to prescribe medications by telemedicine, opening access to many more people.
