Maria Francesca Melis is an Italian illustrator, graphic designer, and multidisciplinary creative based in New Zealand. Her work is heavily influenced by medical and botanical vintage illustrations. The plant and the floral world is an omnipresent decorative element of her art, inspired by vivid memories of her childhood spent in close contact with nature and animals. The tradition of Sardinian decorative art is a fundamental component to her work and research. She often uses representations of clothes and fabrics that recall ancient embroideries and textures of the rich cultural heritage of the island she comes from.
