Laura Barrett illustrated the First Look Book series published by Scholastic. The First Look Books are board books, created for newborn babies who can only see in black and white during their first developmental stage, so high contrast images are easiest for them to view in the beginning. The books were themed by first experiences of areas of daily life: In the Garden, In the City, At the Park, At Home, and In the Water.
